Happy--and healthy--New Year from Persephone Productions' New Artistic Directors!
With the new year comes our official appointment as Artistic Directors of Persephone Productions! Although this theatre season has already brought with it its fair share of lockdown-related bumps, we are no less thrilled to begin our journey at the helm of the company. Check out our new year feature in The Gazette here!
We were very much looking forward to beginning work on our first show, Pool No Water by Mark Ravenhill, but were forced to cancel before we had the chance to announce. We are confident we will be able to postpone the play until a safer time. For now, we will be rehearsing in a workshop setting, deepening our work on the play until we can share it with you. This allows us to support our emerging artists despite the closure of theatres, in a time when most theatre artists are struggling most.
We want to make sure to thank Persephone Productions' generous supporters. A transitional time can be difficult, but it is thanks to your generous and welcoming energy that we feel invigorated and excited, despite the ongoing pandemic, to take on our new roles. If you wish to support us, you can find us on Canada Helps or by email. We welcome any thoughts or messages, and so we invite you to feel free to contact us at persephoneproductions@gmail.com
We look forward to connecting in person soon, but until then, we thank you and wish you the very best,
Rebecca and Leila

Our mandate is to create professional work that launches our artists into the professional theatre sphere.

LETTER FROM ARTISTIC DIRECTOR GABRIELLE SOSKIN:
Dear theatregoers and past, present and future friends of Persephone,
After a long hiatus, Persephone Productions is back and busy putting together our 2022 season!
After a long hiatus, Persephone Productions is back and busy putting together our 2022 season!

Stay tuned for our season announcement and upcoming auditions!
I am particularly glad to welcome back live audiences for what will be my final season with Persephone. I am so excited to announce that we have found two theatre artists to share the leadership of the company and carry on the legacy of Persephone Productions. Persephone is delighted to welcome Rebecca Gibian and Leila Ghaemi as incoming Artistic Directors.
Leila Ghaemi is a Montreal native who recently returned from spending the last decade working for various acclaimed theater companies in The United States. Her specialties include theater education, direction, artistic administration, and new play development. Leila received both her BFA in Theater Arts and MFA in Theater Education & Direction from Boston University’s School of Theatre.
Rebecca Gibian is a META award-winning actor, as well as a director and playwright. She is a bilingual Montrealer, a graduate of the National Theatre School’s acting program, and has worked with a variety of Canadian theatre companies such as The Shaw Festival, Studio 180 Theatre, Centaur Theatre, Talisman Theatre, Repercussion Theatre and the Howland Company.
I have been at the helm for 21 years and am so proud of the legacy we have been able to create, and of the community we have built together. I am thrilled that Rebecca and Leila are keen to take over the company and add their youthful energy, passion, commitment and creativity to Persephone’s future.
